Ephesians 2:8

for by grace you are saved, through faith, and this not of yourselves; it is the gift of God;

In Galatians 2:16 and Romans 3:21-26 it says we are saved by the faith of Christ. Jesus Christ, In the beginning The Word was and The Word was with God and was God The Word became flesh. He provided propitiation, redemption, justification and reconciliation to God for His people He promised to save from their sin.

He was their perfect sinless substitutionary sacrifice through His atoning shed blood and His imputed righteousness.

He removed God’s anger against His people for their sin. Without the shedding of His atoning shed blood and His imputed righteousness no flesh will be justified. This Gospel is the power of God unto salvation unto those believing Romans 1:16-17 The righteousness of God through Jesus Christ is revealed in the Gospel. His work and person alone are the only conditions for His people’s salvation. Salvation is given without any effort or contribution from the persons the Father gave to Him. This makes God a just God, a justifier and a Savior.

Isaiah 55:8-9 Romans 3:21-26 Hebrews 9:22 John 6:37-44 John 1:1-3, 14, 18 1 John 3:5 1 Corinthians 2:14 Romans 4:6-8 Matthew 1:21

Natural man thinks spiritual things are foolishness including the Cross of Christ, therefore the faith that saves cannot be our own because The Natural man is spiritually dead and cannot generate faith from within himself.

We obtained our faith in the Gospel of Christ at the time of receiving Christ’s imputed righteousness when we were generated from above unto belief of the Gospel.

Faith in the Gospel was worked in us by God and received at the time we received Christ’s imputed righteousness upon regeneration.

God cannot accept anything less then perfection. We have to be in Jesus Christ. He will complete His work at His return when His promised people will be made incorruptible along with the new heavens and the new earth.

John 6:64-65 John 3:3-8. Romans 4:3-8. 1 John 5:4 Philippians 1:29 Acts 13:48 John 17:2-3

Christ is the Righteousness of God. He is Jehovah our Righteousness Jeremiah 23:6

Romans 4:6-8

Even as also David says of the blessing of the man to whom God imputes righteousness apart from works:

7 “Blessed are they whose lawlessnesses have been remitted, and whose sins are covered;

8 blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.”

2 Peter 1:1

1 ¶ Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ, to the ones equally precious with us, having obtained faith in the righteousness of our God and our Savior, Jesus Christ:

Galatians 2:16

16 knowing that a man is not justified by works of Law, if not through faith of Jesus Christ (we also believed into Christ Jesus, that we may be justified by faith of Christ and not by works of Law, because all flesh will not be justified by works of Law). Psa. 123:2

Romans 3:21-26

But now apart from law a righteousness of God has been revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets,

22 even the righteousness of God through faith of Jesus Christ toward all and upon all the( ones) believing; for there is no difference,

23 for all sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

24 being justified undeservedly by His grace through the redemption in Christ Jesus,

25 whom God set forth as a propitiation through faith in His blood, for a demonstration of His righteousness through the passing over of the sins that had taken place before, in the forbearance of God,

26 for a demonstration of His righteousness in the present time, for His being just and justifying the one that is of the faith of Jesus

1 Corinthians 2:14

But a natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he is not able to know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

The natural man can’t generate faith because he is spiritually dead. He thinks spiritual things such as the effectual work of the Cross of Christ are foolishness 1 Corinthians 1:18 because he doesn’t have the spirit to be able to understand spiritual things. It requires the gift of the spirit by an act of God.

The natural man, has a condition, a nature, inherited from the Garden of Eden that believes Jesus Christ died for everyone; and the cross wasn’t effectual in that it actually saves, in and of itself, until man performs through some sort of effort; some act of faith from within himself.

This false belief actually correlates to the bait the serpent supplied in the Garden of Eden “Dying you shall not die” “ you will be like God” “knowing Good and Evil”; but that was a lie and God was proven true when He said “Dying you shall die” and we all became liars to put it in simple terms and evil by nature; running from the true God like Adam and Eve.

Natural man cannot produce faith in the The True God, The True Christ and The True Gospel. He doesn’t have the ability; he is spiritually dead. Romans 3:10-11-12

John 3:3,5,8

Jesus answered and said to him, Truly, truly, I say to you, If one is not generated from above, he is not able to see the kingdom of God.

Jesus answered, Truly, truly, I say to you, If one is not generated out of water (God’s cleansing word through the Spirit) and Spirit, he is not able to enter into the kingdom of God

The Spirit breathes where He desires, and you hear His voice; but you do not know from where He comes, and where He goes; so is everyone having been generated from the Spirit.

The above verse reveals God Sovereignly gives His spirit to whomever He chooses and without the spirit they cannot see or enter the kingdom of God and have faith Ephesians 2:8. It is impossible to see the True God and to be saved without faith. Hebrews 11:6 Without Faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, it is impossible to please God. We see in John 6:29 that faith is the work of God; not the work of man

John 6:29

Jesus answered and said to them, This is the work of God, that you believe into Him whom that One sent

Jesus reveals faith is God’s work not man’s work or from man’s effort or generation. John 3:34 says God the Father GAVE to the man Jesus the Spirit without limit which means he had faith in God the Father without limit; as a gift. No free will in this statement! Jesus said He came to do the will of the Father John 6:38

John 3:34

For the One whom God sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure.

God GIVES to whom he wills and In Romans 9:11 we see God gives unconditionally to whom He chooses to call and have mercy ; irrespective of man’s will; but by only His mercy Romans 9:16

Romans 9:11

for the children not yet being born, nor having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of the One calling,

Romans 9:16

16 So, then, it is not of the one willing, nor of the one running, but of the One having mercy, of God

Romans 9:18

18 So, then, to whom He wills, He shows mercy; but to whom He wills, He hardens.

God acts unconditionally in election and reprobation for his purpose according to His will and gives mercy to whom He wills; irrespective of natural man’s will. In James 1:17 we see all good gifts come from God and Romans 9:11 and John 3:3-8 says He gives those good gifts unconditionally to whomever he chooses and all good gifts originate from the Holy Spirit since only God is good and God is Spirit. Only those the Father gives faith; come to Jesus John 6:37 Luke 18:19, John 4:24

In John 3:26-27 a man is able to receive nothing, if it is not given to him from above.

John 3:26

And they came to and said to him, Teacher, the one who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have witnessed, behold, this one baptizes, and all are coming to Him.

John 3:27

John answered and said, A man is able to receive nothing if it is not given to him from Heaven.

Here, once again, we see God must give the gift of faith; since all good gifts come from God and faith is a good gift.

1 Corinthians 4:7

For who makes you to differ? And what do you have that you did not receive? And if you received it, why do you boast as not receiving it?

Here we have confirmation, once again, that God is the one that gives and from whom we receive. John 1;12-13 Since, it is unconditionally given, we have no reason to boast. Faith is an unconditional gift by God and given to whomever he wills to have mercy; irrespective of man’s will. God is the Potter; we are the clay Romans 9:20-22. God has the right to make one vessel of mercy and make one vessel fitted out for destruction. Natural man could care less about spiritual things and needs to have God set him free from the family of Satan. John 8:36 John 8:44 The Bible says you only need 2-3 witnesses. 2 Corinthians 13:1, Deuteronomy 19:16

The multiple scriptures (witnesses) above should be more than sufficient to prove faith is an unconditional gift from God conditioned on the faith of Christ alone to whomever he wills.

If Faith wasn’t a complete gift from God without any effort from man conditioned solely on the work and imputed perfect righteousness of Jesus Christ, man could and would boast because Satan is his father.

God will not share his glory with an idol The “Free will” god that cannot save Isaiah 45:20 Isaiah 42:8-9

Matthew 11:27

All things were given over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father, except the Son, and to whomever the Son purposes to reveal Him.

28 Come to Me, all those laboring and being burdened, and I will give you rest.

29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, because I am meek and lowly in heart, “and you will find rest to your souls.” Jer. 6:16

Beloved you have made a case for election as have many others before. The case for free will has likewise been laid out by many. Both are true, there is a tension but no conflict. God is sovereign for sure but we are created in His image. You can not live, let alone study the Bible, and deny free will. “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” -Romans 10:17 KJV “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” -John 3:18 “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” -John 1:12 “And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.” -Acts 28:24 “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.” -Acts 2:41 God acts in sovereignty – He calls who He will- “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” -2 Peter 3:9 We respond of our own free will – “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” -Romans 10:13 “And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.” -Reveltion 22:17

Wow! That is a lot to cover. I noticed you used the term “ in tension” I heard that term once before used while watching a video series by Michael Patton. Have you watched that series on Soteriology?

      Romans 10:17 King James 3 (KJ3)
17 Then faith is of hearing, and hearing through the Word of God.

The Gospel goes out and those that have been sovereignly generated from above John 3:3-8 effectually hear with the new heart and new spirit given by God as well as hearing the audible sound of the word with the ears
Some hear with the ears but don’t effectually hear or understand because Natural Man doesn’t have the spirit in order to effectually hear or believe 1 Corinthians 2:14

Romans 10:17 only declares that faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Paul is building on the grounds of Romans 10:8-11 “But what saith it? [the righteousness which is of faith] The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. In Romans 10:8-11 Paul is building on Justification by Faith. In each chapter of Romans Paul builds on that which has already been laid out.

Romans 1:16 “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth.” From Romans 1:17 therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. Romans 1:18-25, “The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.”

        Romans 3:21-28, Justification by Faith

From Romans 5, “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” – “hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.”

Romans 10:13, “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

According to Paul, The Gospel [Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again the third day according to the scriptures] when received [obedience to The Faith witch we preach] manifests in Faith [gift of God] whereby we are Justified and thus receive the Holy Ghost [gift of God]

This is the New Birth, from above, by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, whereby Jesus tells Nicodemus that he will only see the kingdom of God—that is, enter into eternal life and enjoy God’s reign—if he is ‘born again’.

According to John, We enter God’s kingdom by turning to God for forgiveness and cleansing. We are transformed and renewed by God’s Spirit, which is something only God can do. He healed the Israelites in the desert when they simply turned in faith to look at the bronze snake held up by Moses. Now Jesus, the Son of man, will be similarly ‘lifted up’, and all who turn to him in faith will receive eternal life.

God is Sovereign, God is the “first cause” of all things, but willful obedience or disobedience/sin is “second causes.”

God is non the less Sovereign when we respond to His will “second causes” because it is He that Wills that we respond “first cause.”

In Gods grace, because He loved the world, He provided for Redemption, gave His Son, the Lamb of God “first cause.” Whosoever believeth in him “second causes” should not perish, but have everlasting life. –The Sovereign Will of God!

It is not His Will that any should perish but that all should come to Repentance. [turn from our wicked ways to God for forgiveness and cleansing] Will all come to Repentance? No So is His Will cried out? yes, in that He calls all to Repentance “first cause.” We respond to Him “second causes.” we are culpable for our decisions as we are created in His image intellect, emotion and will] and because that which may be known of God is manifest, the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead. “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

He has provided all that is necessary for Life and Godliness “first cause.” Do all possess Life and Godliness? no, why? because obedience to the call for Repentance is required “second causes.”

The whole point I was using scripture to make was no one can or will believe the Gospel unless God sovereignly plants His spirit inside of the natural man who does not have the spirit and consequently has no desire to come to God. God sovereignly does this to whom He will have mercy on according to Romans 9 and John 3:8 (the spirit blows where it wills) not where man directs it. The natural man will not ask for the spirit since he thinks spiritual things are foolishness. God unconditionally elects and reprobates… (God is omniscient)before Jacob or Esau had done anything good or bad He loved Jacob and Hated Esau making it an unconditional election and reprobation according to Romans 9:11 God generates or plants His spirit once the new spirit is inside of His elect, that person believes the Gospel and has passed from death to life. It is not a matter of accept or reject, once you are generated from above you have passed from death to life. John 6:37-44 says All the Father gives to Jesus will come and all that come will be raised in the last day and he won’t lose one of them. It is clear God’s choice of who to have mercy on and to harden has nothing to do with man’s will but only of His mercy on whom he wills and He hardens whom he wills and in Romans 9 it is clear that God is the potter and we are the clay and He is making vessels of mercy and He is making vessels fitted out for destruction in order to demonstrate His wrath and power on vessels fitted out for destruction and to show the riches of His glory on vessels of mercy Proverbs 16:4 says Jehovah has made all fir His purpose yea, even the wicked (one) for the day of evil Please notice “Jehovah has made”

    John 3:18( KJ3)
The one believing into Him is not con- demned; but the one not believing has already been condemned, for he has not believed into the name of the only begotten Son of God.

This verse doesn’t prove free will but is distinguishing the one generated from above with a new spirit unto belief into Jesus Christ (John 3:3-8)from the natural man. (1 Corinthians 2:14) that does not believe and is condemned

    John 1:12-13 (KJ3)

But as many as received Him, to them He gave authority to become children of God, to the ones believing into His name,

13 who were generated not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but were generated of God.

Receiving Him, Jesus Christ, means to receive the spirit of Christ upon generation of a new spirit (spirit of Christ) by the sovereign will of God (John 3:3-8)from above unto belief of the Gospel of Christ. In verse John 1:13, we see this happens not by the will of man but by the will of God or by the generation of God. The natural man cannot believe into Him because he is spiritually dead.

And some indeed were persuaded by that being said, but others disbelieved.

Once again, this wouldn’t prove “free will”. Some were generated from above unto belief John 3:3-8 and some were at that point of hearing remaining spiritually dead in the state of natural man dead in sins and trespasses unable to understand or believe the Gospel of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:14 Ephesians 2:1-10

41 Truly, then, the ones gladly welcoming his words were baptized. And about three thousand souls were added that day.

Once again, The natural man thinks spiritual things are foolishness and consequently will not receive them with gladness. Only the ones generated from above by God that are given a new spirit will receive the Gospel with gladness. Only they will have eyes to see and understand by the sovereign Grace of God.

And the Spirit and the bride say, Come! And the one hearing, let him say, Come! And the one thirsting, let him come; and the one willing, let him take of the water of life freely.

Once again, willingness to come is act of God through generation of a new spirit and a new heart by the Father John 3:3-8 John 6:37-44 to those the Father has given to Jesus. The natural man has no interest or ability to come to the True God The True Christ believing the True Gospel because he is spiritually dead. Salvation is pure gift to those unconditionally chosen from before the foundation of the world.

One point I wanted to make but my finger hit the send button accidentally

There must be consistency among The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit

The Father gave a certain number of people to the Son that would not be lost John 6:37-44

The Son could not have died for every individual and paid for their sins. He had to only die for the elect; the ones the Father gave to him that were guaranteed salvation by God’s promise to save his people Matt 1:21

The Spirit only regenerates with a new spirit only those that the Father gave and The sin died for. John 3:8

If your decision makes the difference between Heaven and Hell, then you could boast. You then are meritoriously different from one that didn’t accept and salvation is no longer is by unmeritorious Grace. God would not get all the glory in salvation if you made the difference between Heaven and hell. The Gospel says God promises to save His people without any effort from man since salvation is conditioned solely on Jesus Christ’s atoning blood and His imputed righteousness alone. Salvation is by Grace through faith which is not of yourselves it is the gift of God
It is no longer a gift if it is meritoriously received because of your inherent decision which made you to differ… and 1 Corinthians 4:7 says you have no reason to boast because what you have was received by His sovereign will to give it. So, “free will” goes up in smoke and so does the idol of the “free will” god which is not part of the gospel
